The beans are immersed in water in this process, forming a solution that draws out the soluble elements while preserving the natural flavors. With carbon filters, caffeine is selectively removed, leaving behind a concentrated solution called Green Coffee Extract (GCE). Decaffeination occurs when the GCE and green coffee beans interact, allowing the caffeine to migrate from the beans to the GCE. During this process, other desirable coffee components remain intact as only caffeine moves to achieve equilibrium. Now containing caffeine, the GCE passes through carbon filters, which effectively capture and remove the caffeine molecules. This meticulous cycle persists for 10 hours under strict supervision, yielding green coffee beans that are 99.9% caffeine-free and primed for roasting.
